4 Natural Beauty Rituals for Holistic Health
Life can feel like a juggling act, but this is no reason to ignore the need for self-care. Nurturing our body and spirit is an essential part of life. Without self-care our energy becomes imbalanced and our ability to perform daily tasks with health and happiness wavers. Fortunately, taking a bit of time for holistic health and beauty can be easy. Try these simple ideas for natural beauty rituals to enhance your daily care inside and out.Soothing Self-MassageThe physical body holds much of our emotional tension. After your daily shower show the body love by giving yourself a soothing self-massage. Use an essential oil infused lotion or body oil to moisturize your body while massaging. Start with the neck and shoulders working your way down to the hips, legs, thighs and feet. Breathe in the aromatic benefits while your body releases tension. This is the perfect way to start or end every day. Weekly Soft SoakA warm bath does wonders for holistic health. Laying down surrounded by warm water is an incredibly soothing natural beauty ritual. Baths also detoxify skin and relax muscles. Make a weekly ritual of preparing a special soft soak to enhance bath time. Light a clean burning candle near the tub. Dilute 5 drops of rose or lavender essential oil to 1 tablespoon almond or jojoba oil, and add the mixture to your bath water. You can also add a hand full of fresh rose petals. Detoxifying ExfoliationThe skin is the body’s largest organ so it is important to keep it healthy and toxin-free. Weekly exfoliation helps increase circulation, releases toxins, and encourages cell regeneration. For a simple body scrub blend finely ground sea salt, jojoba or almond oil, and a few drops of lavender essential oil, and scrub. Sea salt contains trace minerals that rejuvenate skin. Post-scrub make sure to drink a lot of water to flush out toxins. 10 Minute Meditative MaskFor an ultimate natural skin care ritual, combine your beauty routine and meditation practice. Choose to be mindful while waiting for your nails to dry, using a deep hair treatment, or wearing a face mask. Keep it simple. Try a manuka honey mask. Use a tablespoon of manuka honey, warm it up in the palm of your hand, and spread it on your face. Set your timer for 10-15 minutes, call attention to your breathing, and observe any thoughts that arise. Return to your breathing and continue to observe. When your timer goes off gently rinse with warm water. Enjoy these natural beauty rituals for holistic health. We would love to hear the ways you beautify inside and out.

Read this interview to learn more about Conscious Living with Amie Valpone! What inspired you to write Eating Clean: The 21-Day plan to Detox, Fight Inflammation and Reset your Body?I want to show you that eating clean and living clean feels amazing. Not because you should do it, but because once you see life this way, you’ll never go back. There’s not an inflammatory white bagel or piece of candy in the world that I’d eat to give up for as good as I feel right now. When you figure out what works for you and makes you feel amazing, why wouldn’t you do that every day? Don’t you do what makes you feel good? Eating Clean steps the reader through your personal journey from sickness to health. Is there a piece of advice that may empower readers to take a similar journey?Getting healthy (and staying healthy) may take some serious shifts in your daily habits, but don’t worry about revamping your lifestyle overnight. These changes take time. Start when you feel ready and take a deep breath. My “aha” moment was getting chronically ill, but you don’t need to go through something that dramatic. Funny thing is that before I got sick, I cooked my own meals, brought my lunch to work, and never ate fast food. I thought I was eating healthy, but I had no idea how toxic seemingly healthy food could be. The fact is that nothing changed until I started to change my food, my environment and my lifestyle, which is what is outlined in this book with a huge section on how to detox your food, home, personal care products and beauty products. If more people understood what an important role they plan in their own healthy, they could change the quality of their life forever. I’m living proof.Your book provides a 21-Day Plan to Detox one’s life from food to personal care to household cleaners. Why do you think this holistic view is important?I never realized our personal care products (everything from our chapstick to our sunscreen to our body lotion, shampoo and conditioner) were lurking with chemicals and parabens. Why didn’t anyone tell me about this? Why wasn’t I taught this growing up? Why wasn’t anyone looking out for me? I was so sad when I discovered this. My parents didn’t even know about this. I had to educate them. Our skin is our biggest organ so anything we put on our skin gets absorbed into our bloodstream- once I cleaned up my personal care products- everything from my deodorant to my makeup- my liver enzymes started to normalize because I was lessening the body burden of toxins that were bombarding my body on a daily basis. It was fascinating. As a nutritionist what would you recommend as quick and healthy dinner option for those just getting started on a healthier track?I love the Millet Tacos recipe from my cookbook. It’s my favorite…it’s actually a breakfast recipe in my book but it’s just as good for dinner! Did you come across any new healthy discoveries while writing Eating Clean? The importance of balance. I was a work work work kinda-gal for many years and starting my own business I had to learn work life balance and that the most successful people in the world are those who have balance. It’s not about working all day to succeed. It’s about finding a balance that works for you and not worrying about what anyone else is doing. It’s about finding happiness within yourself. That’s what I found through writing this book. This book isn’t about me….it’s about my message to help as many people as I can. I truly hope this book changes lives. I’m ready to hand over the keys to someone else to help them navigate their life so they don’t have go through the suffering, trauma and exhaustion of chronic illness I went through for 10 very painful and expensive years trying to figure out how to be healthy in a real way.

Learn more5 Toxic Baby Care Ingredients to Avoid
There is a reason why the organic baby care trend has taken off. No parent want to use toxic baby products on their precious little one. The EPA has acknowledged that babies and children are 10 times more vulnerable to carcinogenic chemicals than adults. This has well-informed caregivers reading the labels before purchasing personal care products for their children. The next time you need to decipher an ingredient label here is a quick list of harmful skin care ingredients to avoid for your entire family. 1. Fragrance or Parfum | Manufactures can legally hide synthetic chemicals as “trade secrets”. Fragrance mixes have been associated with allergies, dermatitis, respiratory distress, and more. 2. 1,4-dioxane | A low cost manufacturing process called ethoxylstion generates 1,4-dioxane as a by-product. To avoid this chemical stay away from PEGs, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) often found in body wash and lotion. 3. Formaldehyde | 1 in 5 cosmetic products contain ingredients that generate formaldehyde. But the label will keep it hidden. Avoid these formaldehyde related chemicals: DMDM hydantoin, imidazolidinyl urea, diazolidinyl urea, quaternium-15, bronopol, 1,3-dioxane, and hydroxymethylglycinate. 4. Petroleum/Mineral Oil | 40 percent of all baby lotions and oils contain mineral oil - made from petroleum aka crude oil. Petroleum products slow the skin’s ability to release toxins and reduces normal cell development.CLICK HERE for FREE Organic Diaper Cream samples. 5. Parabens | Even low doses of parabens have been associated with organ and developmental problems. Steer clear of all parabens including methylparabens, ethylparabens, propylparabens, isopropylparabens. When making a conscious decision about children's personal care products many parents prefer pure, organic, botanical ingredients that benefit baby and the environment. We hope now you know what harmful chemicals to avoid in baby products.
