Healthy Living 2021 by Amie Valpone
The New Year is a time for all of us to reflect on the energy we want to bring into our lives. For most people this consists of cleaning up the inflammatory foods we're eating, understanding the process of natural detoxification of toxins and supporting our immune system. I've spent the last twelve years struggling with severe toxicity in my body that led to over a dozen chronic health issues, all of which elicited an inflammatory response from my immune system and left me with no other choice but to start questioning what I was putting into and onto my body. While my situation was the extreme, we're all dealing with some level of a toxic burden in our bodies these days. I like to think of detoxification as minimizing our exposure to toxins from the most common ways they enter our bodies: the personal care products we use, the air we breathe, the water we drink and the foods we eat. While most people think of the term "detox" as a fad diet or a juice fast- it's anything but that. The goal of detoxification is to support your body's natural ability to detoxify so you're able to flush toxins out of your system on a daily basis. What happens when we don't flush the toxins out? Health issues and chronic symptoms start to set in and that's exactly what we're all trying to avoid. So, what are a few ways you can start to detox today? For starters, Erbaviva sells the most incredibly clean products I've been using everyday for years- their deodorant, lip & cheek balm and body oil are my favorite, which make me feel luxurious. I also recommend getting a water filter that removes heavy metals, mold and all other chemicals from tap water. And lastly, if you're looking to start a new clean eating plan for the New Year, check out my best-selling book, Eating Clean, for over 200 anti-inflammatory, tasty detox recipes. These recommendations for your health and wellbeing are a great way to start 2021 healthy and clean. Happy New Year!Amie Valpone
Learn moreWhat to expect when making the switch to a natural deodorant
You've learned the reasons to switch to natural deodorant, bid farewell to your antiperspirant and committed to going au naturel. So, what’s next? Here is a breakdown of what to expect when switching to natural deodorant and how to make the transition successful. The Detox After using an antiperspirant for a *long* time, there is a period of adjustment— the body needs to rebalance itself as it adapts to a natural formula. After all, it’s learning how to sweat again. You may find that you sweat more initially. You may even notice some armpit stains (that’s not typically with use of a non-antiperspirant) as your body eliminates aluminum build-up and other toxins from the pores in your underarms. During this purge the growth of odor-causing bacteria can increase, resulting in unpleasant body odor. You might even think your deodorant ‘isn’t working,’ but stick with it — it’s temporary. This ‘detox’ typically lasts about two to four weeks, based on your own body chemistry. How to get through it: No bacteria. No body odor. Keep your armpits clean and your BO in check with (more) frequent showers or body cleansing wipes for when you’re on-the-go. Hot baths or a sweat sesh opens-up underarm pores and help speed-up the ‘detox’ process. Wear loose clothing made with natural fibers, like cotton, silk or linen, to more comfortably allow your body to perspire. Drink more water to flush toxins out — a good move, detox or not! You may need to experiment with a different scents to land on the one that best complements and neutralizes your body’s natural scent. Keep a travel-size version of your deodorant in your bag, like the 2 oz travel-size version of our award winning spray deodorants, to freshen-up throughout the day.

With celebrities, fashion, food and activities, the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund’s Super Saturday Event on May 17th, in Santa Monica, CA was an amazing success. Blue skies and warm weather set the tone for this vibrant, haute fundraiser that originated in the Hamptons 20 years ago. This first-ever West Coast Super Saturday ovarian cancer fundraiser was hosted by celebrity moms Rachel Zoe and Molly Sims who arrived with the whole family to bring awareness to this very worthy cause. Ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer among American women. According the the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, “Approximately 22,000 U.S. women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year, and about 15,500 women will die from the disease. One in 78 American women will develop ovarian cancer in her lifetime.“ The OCRF focuses on strategies for early detection and much needed innovative treatments for ovarian cancer. The Red Carpet: The red carpet was alive with some of television’s favorite stars including Tammin Sursok, Vanessa Ray and Janel Parrish from Pretty Little Liars, Patti Stanger from Millionaire Matchmaker, and Nikki Deloach from Awkward, to mention a few. Tammin Sursok went home with organic baby products for her little one by Erbaviva. Fashion Moguls were also present at the Super Saturday event including Joe Zee, the creative director of Elle and fashion historian Cameron Silver. The Brands: Luxury brands donated everything from designer clothes, shoes and bags to beauty and baby products. Participating brands included Aden & Anais, Versace, Haute Hippie, Beyond Yoga & Planet Blue. Erbaviva was a proud participant donating over $2000 of organic skin care to the OCRF. OCRF estimates that over $600,000 was raised during the event. We would like to thank all of the OCRF organizers, volunteers and vendors for an amazing day of fun and fundraising!
