The New Year is a time for all of us to reflect on the energy we want to bring into our lives. For most people this consists of cleaning up the inflammatory foods we're eating, understanding the process of natural detoxification of toxins and supporting our immune system. I've spent the last twelve years struggling with severe toxicity in my body that led to over a dozen chronic health issues, all of which elicited an inflammatory response from my immune system and left me with no other choice but to start questioning what I was putting into and onto my body.
While my situation was the extreme, we're all dealing with some level of a toxic burden in our bodies these days. I like to think of detoxification as minimizing our exposure to toxins from the most common ways they enter our bodies: the personal care products we use, the air we breathe, the water we drink and the foods we eat. While most people think of the term "detox" as a fad diet or a juice fast- it's anything but that.
The goal of detoxification is to support your body's natural ability to detoxify so you're able to flush toxins out of your system on a daily basis. What happens when we don't flush the toxins out? Health issues and chronic symptoms start to set in and that's exactly what we're all trying to avoid.
So, what are a few ways you can start to detox today? For starters, Erbaviva sells the most incredibly clean products I've been using everyday for years- their deodorant, lip & cheek balm and body oil are my favorite, which make me feel luxurious. I also recommend getting a water filter that removes heavy metals, mold and all other chemicals from tap water. And lastly, if you're looking to start a new clean eating plan for the New Year, check out my best-selling book, Eating Clean, for over 200 anti-inflammatory, tasty detox recipes. These recommendations for your health and wellbeing are a great way to start 2021 healthy and clean. Happy New Year!
